Buy One Get One Free (BOGOF)

This has become a very popular type of beauty offer, more often in retail outlets than on the internet, but there are some online bogof offers available. It is used by suppliers who want to shift stock from the warehouse. The offer is equivalent to a 50% discount on the selling price. If the supplier only offered that, then you may only buy one single item. By presenting the offer as a bogof, the supplier shifts two items from the warehouse.

It’s amazing that this word has now entered our vocabulary in a way that is completely unexpected. Retailers now talk of BOGOF as a matter of course and we all know what they are talking about. And it’s no wander. As a buyer, BOGOF gives you two for the price of one, and for the retailer, it sells two items of stock at a reasonable margin. It’s a win-win for everyone. Long live buy one get one free.
