Where to find laser hair removal cost info01.02.12

laser hair removal cost

Laser hair removal cost can vary enormously. In keeping with most things that you buy, the more you pay – the more you get. So it is worth doing some substantial research into laser hair removal cost before you go to see a specialist.

Some beauty salons will offer laser hair removal as just one of their services from a wide range of services. Other places will be specialist laser hair removal experts. Make sure you know which type of place you are going to because the type of laser hair treatment available can be quite different. There will, as a consequence, be differences in its effectiveness and longevity.

It is often best to go on personal recommendation and if you know any friends or relatives who have had laser hair removal then it is worth while exploring the laser hair removal cost and effectiveness of the treatment they had.

It is difficult for us to make a personal recommendation because you will want to choose someone local to you for convenience and to keep the laser hair removal cost down. There are many suitable places who advertise on the internet and we have selected a range of laser hair removal advertisers at the top of this page so that you can select one in a location near you. Be sure to ask them about the laser hair removal cost before you embark on a course of treatment and be sure to ask for a number of references that you can take up to ensure they offer a quality laser hair removal service. If they are reluctant to provide referrences, then I would be somewhat wary about choosing them for their laser hair removal treatment.

If you can select the right supplier the laser hair treatment cost can be extremely worthwhile and the results can be spectacularly good. But do select wisely!

Intense Pulsed Light Hair Removal

The Philips Lumea IPL Intense Pulsed Light hair removal system is a revolutionary new device that enables you to be free from unwanted hair and enjoy smooth skin every day. You can now use this innovative technology in the comfort of your home. Philips Lumea uses gentle pulses of light to stimulate the hair root into a resting phase. Hair sheds naturally and regrowth is inhibited. Using Philips Lumea every two weeks on your underarms and bikini area, and every four weeks on your legs, will keep your skin smooth and hair-free day in, day out.

Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light (IPL), is a technology aimed at producing light of high intensity during a very short period of time. It involves specific lamps together with capacitors whose rapid discharge provides the high energy required and the ability to produce light in very short bursts.

Intense pulsed light is a method of hair removal from the body most commonly employed by medical practitioners and estheticians. Intense pulsed light involves the use of a specially constructed xenon flash lamp and focusing optics.

Cheaper and faster than laser hair removal, the IPL hair removal procedure has become very popular. Although the precise effectiveness of IPL compared to laser epilation is debated by scientists, equipment manufacturers and practitioners, their results are widely accepted to be roughly equivalent. IPL can also be used as a skin treatment in a process known as photorejuvenation, although this will almost certainly require medical supervision.

How does intense pulsed light hair removal work?

Hair follicles are heated using the laser beam. This damages the hair follicle, which prevents the hair from growing again. Each treatment may take between 15 minutes to over an hour. Your eyes must be protected with specially designed goggles during the treatment and there may be a certain amount of pain.

The number and frequency of intense pulsed light treatments needed will depend on the area to be treated and the system which is used – different  systems will work differently on different skin types and hair colors. In addition, the laser beam only works on  hair follicles which are actively growing at the time of the treatment. This means that hair will continue to grow from follicles which are not active at the time of the treatment. Usually a course of treatments may be needed before the area is fully clear of hair. The duration of this course of treatments can be up to a year.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) systems (which include Light Heat Energy (LHE) systems) can also be used for hair removal. Although these sources of intense pulsed light are different to laser beams in that laser beams are more concentrated, they work in much the same way as a laser beam when removing hair.

After intense pulsed light hair removal treatment the skin area may be red and a raised rash may be present which should generally resolve within 24 hours.

The results:

Long-term – but not permanent – hair removal can be achieved with lasers, IPL and LHE machines. Further courses of intense pulsed treatment may be needed if hormonal changes cause hair regrowth, or if hair follicles which were dormant at the time of the course of treatment become active and grow new hair.

You will need to avoid sun exposure / tanning before and after the treatment.

The risks:

After the intense pulsed light treatment the skin may be red and sensitive, but this will be temporary. Light based hair removal treatments can cause skin blisters or burns which can lead to mild scarring and changes in skin colour or pigment.

Can I expect light-based hair removal results to last forever?

Neither professional nor at-home intense pulsed light based hair removal treatments can deliver permanent hair removal. Because of the hair growth cycle, light-based treatments are usually done in a series of sessions. Hairs that may have been dormant during your previous treatment may now be in the growth phase. With both professional and at-home IPL treatments, hairs usually reappear after a little time, typically with a reduced amount or finer version. For professional IPL treatment, maintenance sessions once or twice a year are often recommended. Philips Lumea uses a lower intensity than the professional treatments, but using intense pulsed light hair removal more regularly gives you breakthrough results at home.

Some competitor’s products claim ‘permanent hair reduction’ when using IPL or intense pulsed light hair removal. According to the FDA (Richard Felten, FDA regulator responsible for light-based epilation) “Permanent hair reduction is defined as the long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after a treatment regime. Permanent hair reduction does not necessarily imply the elimination of all hairs in the treatment area.” Unfortunately, most consumers mistake ‘permanent hair reduction’ (which can mean only 40% reduction, which would be an unsatisfactory result) for ‘permanent hair removal’, which is a myth.

Important safety advice for intense pulsed light hair removal

If your natural hair colour in the treatment areas is light blonde, white, grey or red.
